In the hallway of Ox + Anchor is a bold maple and steel sculpture by SLO-based artist Peter Charles. Maple Circle is from his “ties” series and is composed of maple wood and formed and welded steel pieces that are bound together with a long 1/4 inch thick steel twisted tie bent around to hold the parts together.
Peter Charles’s art school training began in painting and sculpture at (RISD) the Rhode Island School of Design, BFA, followed by the Yale University School of Art & Architecture, MFA. He is Emeritus Professor of Art, Georgetown University, where he taught Sculpture and Foundation Design in the Art & Art History Department. In July, 2015, He moved from Washington, DC, to San Luis Obispo, CA where he maintains his studio. His sculptures are constructivist, where his graphic sensibility dominates his work.
